Bridgette Jones has the most effective hair and make-up tricks up her sleeve

I’m a 50-year-old woman suffering from eczema. It’s embarrassing for me as it is on my hands and feet. I want to go for a pedicure, but feel very embarrassed and also fear passing on my skin disease to others. Please suggest some way for me to keep my feet clean.

You can keep your feet clean by following these simple steps at home itself:
Step 1: Soak your feet in a tub or basin filled with warm water for 15 to 20 minutes. Although a long, hot soak can be very relaxing, it can irritate your skin. You can add a few drops of sweet almond oil as it softens and soothes dry skin.

Step 2: Pat your feet dry with a soft, cotton towel. Trim and file your nails using a strong steel clipper made specifically for toe nails. Trim your nails straight across, then smoothen the edges with a nail file giving them a slightly rounded shape as it helps prevent painful, ingrown nails. After filing use a cuticle pusher to gently push back the cuticles around each nail. Then rub on a little cuticle oil when you are done to add a bit of moisture.

Step 3: Moisturise your feet making sure to liberally apply the moisturiser on areas that need to be treated. Since the patches of rash caused by eczema dry the skin out, when a good moisturiser is used — one without fragrance — you will have a protective shield that will keep your skin very hydrated.

Step 4: Immediately after moisturising the skin, wrap the feet with damp bandages. Then cover the wrapped feet with a larger dry towel. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes. The layers of wet bandages help lock in the moisture, giving the moisturiser time to completely saturate and penetrate your  skin. In addition, as the water evaporates gradually from the wet layers of bandages it provides a cooling sensation to the skin, which can help relieve the eczema itch.

I am not into lipsticks and prefer using a lip balm with a tint instead.

However, for parties and occasions I use Ruby Woo from M.A.C. To accentuate my eyes I use Lakmé Eyeconic Kajal and I like using foundations from Bobbi Brown. For my hair I stick to Bonacure Volume Boost Shampoo from Schwarzkopf and love using creams from Vichy.
