Jumbos eat rice

Jhargram, July 20: A herd of elephants has been repeatedly attacking eight primary schools in the jungles of West Midnapore's Jhargram and Kharagpur and devouring rice meant for midday meals over the past one month.

Calcutta: The high court on Tuesday rejected the bail prayer of Rose Valley chief Goutam Kundu, who was arrested on March 25 by the Enforcement Directorate for alleged money laundering.

Emblem cuffs

Burdwan: An army jawan was arrested for using the national emblem on his motorbike and allegedly assaulting a policeman who challenged him in Burdwan on Tuesday. Mainuddin Sheikh, 26, questioned the "audacity" of the policeman to challenge an armyman.

Students ill

Ranaghat: Around 50 Class X students of a Nadia school fell ill in their classroom on Tuesday during a power failure and were hospitalised. A doctor said the students showed symptoms of nausea, breathlessness, headache, abdominal pain and restlessness. A teacher said the students felt suffocated as the classroom windows were closed because of rain.
