Ire at 'tall claims'
Calcutta, July 21: The Opposition today slammed chief minister Mamata Banerjee for her "tall claims" on Bengal's development.
CPM state secretary and leader of the Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra said: "She has talked about development, determination, discipline and what not. But in these four years, Bengal has seen only destruction. There is no industry. Farmers are committing suicide. The health scenario is bad. Education is in a shambles. Minority welfare is a far cry."
He said employment opportunities were shrinking by the day.
State Congress president Adhir Chowdhury today led a procession of nearly 500 party workers from Jadubabur Bazar to the Hazra Road crossing in south Calcutta. Later, addressing a public meeting from a decked-up lorry, he criticised the "martyrs' day" rally, calling it "an eyewash".
According to the state BJP, Mamata has "misled" people by making false claims of development.
