Murder cuffs on NGO trio
Three members of an NGO, including a woman, were arrested from Pandra, around 10km from Ranchi, on Thursday night for their alleged involvement in the murder of a social activist working with a rival organisation.
Manju Kujur (34) was nabbed from Madhukam Basti while Pankaj Kumar (22), alias Sanjay Kumar Singh, and Ravindra Kumar Soni (24), alias Shahsi, were arrested from Pandra Basti.
Pandra outpost in-charge Sambhu Prasad Kushwaha said they arrested Manju first. Based on her information, they later nabbed Singh and Soni.
"The trio had strangulated NGO worker Ranglal Prasad (45) to death and dumped his body beside Ring Road in Nagri area on June 11. The decomposed body was recovered on June 21," said Kushwaha.
He said professional rivalry was the motive behind the crime. "The accused used to run an NGO Care and Care near the office of Prasad's Samgra Jagriti Mahila Utthan Samiti. They had accused him of threatening them. Then, the trio hatched the plan of murder," said Kushwaha.
"Prasad's son Amit Kumar had lodged a case of abduction against the woman at Pandra outpost on June 11 after he did not return home at Pandra Basti," added Kushwaha.
