Murder charge for sport death
Tamluk, June 27: East Midnapore police today slapped murder charges on the owners and operators of the parasailing company that had organised the event during which a tourist died in Mandarmani last Sunday.
Bengal Adventure is co-owned by Trinamul panchayat member Satyabrata Khatua and had allegedly been operating without a trade licence.
Tarun Ghosh, a Murshidabad resident, was killed when the rope that was pulling the parasail got entangled with a 100ft lamppost. Ghosh plunged about 110ft to the beach and the lamppost fell on him.
"The agency had deposited Rs 7,500 as development fee for April, May and June after submitting a written application to us to run the service," the Ramnagar II BDO said.
Khatua said: "If I was running the service illegally, why did the block administration take the development money from me?"
The subdivisional police officer in Contai, Kazi Shamsuddin Biswas, said: "We had initiated a case of unnatural death but after receiving a complaint from a friend of the deceased, we have started a murder case."
