Who Plays What In June 4 Release Mahanagar@kolkata Published 31.05.10, 12:00 AM

Rituparna Sengupta

I play Rongili, a housewife who has a mind of her own, in the third story Angshik Chandragrahan. There are lots of issues in her marriage but she tries hard to make it a success. I feature in some surreal scenes when Rongili’s husband hallucinates. I am also there in the first story but have an indirect interaction with Anjan Dutt and Biplab Chakraborty’s characters.

Arun Mukhopadhyay

I play Biren, a lower middle class retired man, in the second story Amar Kono Bhoy Nei Toh. My character used to work in the Calcutta Municipal Corporation and now lives with his wife and son. He is a little strange. He lives in the constant fear that whatever is happening in the world outside might happen in his life. I appear in the first story, Ak Tukro Nyloner Dori, only in passing.

Chandan Roy Sanyal

I play Rohit in Angshik Chandragrahan, an upper middle class technocrat who has studied in the US, has a beautiful wife (Rongili) and loves wine and pasta. He expects a lot from his wife though he cheats on her. One of their problems is that Rongili wants a baby but he doesn’t.... I was very comfortable doing the nude scene as I felt it was in sync with the story. My character is hallucinating and not bothered about what state he is in.

Anjan Dutt

Mahanagar@Kolkata is a very interesting, cosmopolitan, contemporary film. I play Manmatha, a top civic official who comes to see a patient in a hospital and witnesses terrible brutality there. But he is helpless. My role didn’t require great acting... it was a cakewalk for me.

Biplab Chakraborty

I play a very superstitious man in Ak Tukro Nyloner Dori, who believes that carrying a piece of nylon rope will protect him from harm. His son is in the hospital and he pins all hopes on the nylon rope for his son’s recovery.... I almost snatched this role from Suman because I have decided to play characters different from the typical maar-danga ones I play.

Sreelekha Mitra

I appear only in the third story. My character, Kamalini, is Rohit’s girlfriend. She’s intellectual, slightly eccentric and works in a multinational company. It’s an urban, identifiable character... someone I haven’t played before. So it was interesting. I also look different in short hair and glasses.
