Niharica Raizada could have easily chosen to become a playback singer in Bollywood, for she’s the granddaughter of (late) musician OP Nayyar. Tuesday found her shaking a leg with Saswata Chatterjee and Shaheb Bhattacherjee in Manoj Michigan’s comedy Damadol at NT-1. A t2 chat...

The Damadol team are calling it a promotional song since you have a problem with the item girl tag ...

Well, I don’t want to be labelled an item girl here. I wasn’t too keen on doing this song until I heard it. Lyricist Rana (Mazumdar), an assistant of Pritam, has written it, which goes Ami gorom cha, phook diye kha, and it’s lovely! But before this, I had rejected at least five item songs. I don’t think I will do another soon. I want to act in films now.

There are quite a few bold photographs of yours on the Net.

I have no problems with bold scenes in films as long as the role demands it and it goes with the story.

You are training under Kavita Krishnamurthy. Do you plan to take up singing as a career?

Maybe someday, after all it’s in my genes (laughs)! I have also done modelling and learnt dance but an actress is what I would like to see myself as. I want to do commercial films and also meaningful cinema. I will be back in Mumbai tomorrow and start shooting for the Lux ad with Katrina Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan soon. It’s gonna be exciting!
