Rhythm divine: Durga Puja and Diwali may have ended but festivities seem to be far from over. And what better way to celebrate winter evenings than with a perfect concoction of music? CMDA in association with Calcutta Classical Guitar Society is bringing to Calcutta ‘Mighty Trio on Drums’, a Live in Lakes concert, at Rabindra Sarobar (opposite Menoka) on December 1, 5pm onwards. The event, billed to be one of the largest open-air live musical shows in the city, will feature Bickram Ghosh, American drummer and percussionist Greg Ellis and English percussionist and recording artiste Pete Lockett. Talking about the event, Bickram said, “The three of us have never performed together. Greg and Pete, in fact, have never even met! Both, however, love Calcutta and come here quite often. Maybe this concert will later turn this beautiful place into something like Central Park.” The concert will not only feature nearly 200 different drums (like the wave drum, conga and nagara), but will also include a dance performance by Doris Martel from Los Angeles. “The whole idea behind this was to create a venue for live concerts in the most beautiful part of the city — Rabindra Sarobar,” signed off Bikram.

Guetta Blaster: Goa, India’s rave stronghold, will play host to dance music giant DJ David Guetta this December to crank up the tempo at Superstar India, which is the country’s first DJ ranking system. France’s biggest export since singer Serge Gainsbourg is expected to play chartbusters like One Love, I Gotta Feeling, Titanium, When Love Takes Over and, hopefully, Little Bad Girl.
