Freeze frame: Priyanka Chopra, Avinash Tiwary, Sridevi

Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra’s fiancé, has opened up about their engagement as he jokingly revealed that their celebrity nickname will be “Prick”. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday, 25-year-old Jonas said he was quick to propose to the actress as he knew she was the one right away. Fallon asked whether they have thought of a nickname for themselves. Priyanka, 36, who was standing at the side of the stage, yelled: “Prick”. “She likes Prick. I don’t like that one that much,” Jonas said as Fallon shot down the suggestion. The singer said after they got engaged in America, they went to India for the ceremony. “After we got engaged, we went to India... and my parents came along. We did this beautiful roka ceremony… It’s a confirmation from both sides of the family that they approve of the engagement…” he said, adding that they felt “full of joy” after their ceremony and thought that now they should make it public.

Actor Avinash Tiwary, who is getting critical praise for his performance in Laila Majnu, believes there are ample opportunities for artistes in show business before they make it to the big screen. Tiwary, who has made his Hindi film debut with the Sajid Ali-directed film, says his goal has always been to do good work but at the same time he does not want to do characters that would box him in a certain image. “I think there’s a lot of work for actors in the city. Fortunately or unfortunately, unless and until you make it to the big screen people don’t think you’re doing well enough. Otherwise, there is enough work for actors in Mumbai,” he told PTI. “When I was starting, there were so many channels that were coming up, I thought I’ll do something or the other. I’ll survive but I won’t starve myself. So, I kept working but yes I wanted to work in films.” Before Laila Majnu, Tiwary had worked alongside Amitabh Bachchan in TV thriller Yudh where he played an advocate.

The Switzerland authorities are planning to install a statue of late actress Sridevi, whose superhit film Chandni (1989) was shot in the country’s picturesque locations. Filmmaker Yash Chopra’s statue was also unveiled in Interlaken in 2016, four years after his death. “Many of Chopra’s films featured Switzerland as a backdrop and he is credited with boosting the popularity of the Alpine nation among Indian tourists. Now, considering Sridevi’s role in promoting tourism here, there is a proposal to honour the actor by having her statue here,” a senior official familiar with the development said. The 1989 blockbuster also put Switzerland on centre stage as almost half the song and dance sequences in the film had a Swiss backdrop.
