SALMAN KHAN: 537 CRORE
When it comes to raking in the moolah with his movies, there’s no matching Salman. Bolly’s hit machine has as many as five films in the Rs 100 crore club. Salman’s last few releases — Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2 — have all hit the Rs 100 crore jackpot, making him the man to beat at the box office.
Box office from last 3 earners: Dabangg 2 (Rs 178 crore), Ek Tha Tiger (Rs 199 crore), and Bodyguard (Rs 160 crore)
Top 3 earners: Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2 and Bodyguard
Next release: Jai Ho (January 2014)
Shah rukh KHAN: 441 CRORE
King Khan takes the number two spot riding on the massive numbers scored by Chennai Express. The Rohit Shetty film’s reign at the top of the Bolly biggest hits chart may have only lasted three months, till Krrish 3 flew in, but SRK scores with his superstar stature.
Box office from last 3 earners: Chennai Express (Rs 226 crore), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Rs 110 crore), Don 2 (Rs 105 crore)
Top 3 earners: Chennai Express, Ra.One (Rs 118 crore) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Next release: Happy New Year (Diwali 2014)
hrithik roshan: 431 CRORE...
The Bolly man of the moment may have had us drooling over him for years, but it’s only with Krrish 3 that he has entered the big league. How big? Bigger than Aamir Khan on our last-three scale. That’s big!
Box office from last 3 earners: Krrish 3 (Rs 245 crore — and counting), Agneepath (Rs 106 crore) and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Rs 80 crore)
Top 3 earners: Krrish 3, Agneepath and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Next release: Bang Bang (end 2014)
ranbir kapoor: 357 CRORE
The biggest challenger to the Khan monopoly. Ever since his debut six years ago, Ranbir has impressed both with his choice of films and his power at the BO. He may have had a roller-coaster 2013 — a biggie in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to a dismal flop in Besharam — but Ranbir deserves his place in the big league.
Box office from last 3 earners: Besharam (Rs 59 crore),Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs 188 crore) and Barfi! (Rs 110 crore)
Top 3 earners: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Barfi! and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (Rs 86 crore)
Next release: Bombay Velvet (end 2014)
aamir khan: 322 CRORE
Mr Consistent at the box office. Unlike Salman’s films, Aamir’s movies manage to please both the critic and the cine-goer. He may be at a lowly fifth on this list, but expect that to go ulta pulta in less than a month when Aamir vrooms in with Dhoom:3.
Box office from last 3 earners: Talaash (Rs 80 crore), Dhobi Ghat (Rs 40 crore) and 3 Idiots (Rs 202 crore)
Top 3 earners: 3 Idiots (Rs 202 crore), Ghajini (Rs 114 crore) and Talaash
Next release: Dhoom:3 (December 20)
ajay devgn: 237 CRORE
He’s the man who quietly delivers one blockbuster after another without making a brouhaha about it. Ajay’s biggest hits have happened with director-buddy Rohit Shetty but even alone he guarantees that a film opens big and often remains big.
Box office from last 3 earners: Satyagraha (Rs 63 crore), Himmatwala (Rs 48 crore) and Son of Sardaar (Rs 126 crore)
Top 3 earners: Son of Sardaar , Singham (Rs 115 crore) and Golmaal 3 (Rs 107 crore)
Next release: Action Jackson (April 2014)
akshay kumar: 179 CRORE
Mr Dark Horse. Akki is the man who bounces back from a string of flops to give back-to-back hits. This year has not gone according to script — Boss and Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara tanked, while Special 26’s critical acclaim didn’t translate into cash returns — but the Khiladi sure knows the box-office game.
Box office from last 3 earners: Boss (Rs 54 crore), Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara (Rs 60 crore) and Special 26 (Rs 65 crore)
Top 3 earners: Rowdy Rathore (Rs 133 crore), Housefull 2 (Rs 113 crore) and Housefull (Rs 108 crore)
Next release: It’s Entertainment (May 2014)
THE SHERO: 594 CRORE...
If there is one star who has beaten the Khans, Kumars and Kapoors at the 2013 box office, then it is Deepika Padukone. All her films this year have been massive hits — Chennai Express (Rs 226 crore), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs 188 crore) and Race 2 (Rs 100 crore). Add Ram-Leela, fast closing in on the Rs 100-crore mark. Way to go DP!
Box office in 2013 alone: Rs 594 crore — and counting!
Next release: Kochadaiiyaan (January 10, 2014)
