Kasturi Gogoi, a 12-year-old student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir School - III, Guwahati, has already earned her stripes as a national swimming sensation. In a historic moment on March 30, 2022, Kasturi swam solo across the Palk Strait—from Talaimannar (Sri Lanka) to Arichal Munai Beach (Tamil Nadu, India)—covering 29 km in 13 hours and 54 minutes. She was just 9 years, 1 month, and 9 days old, becoming the youngest swimmer to achieve this daunting feat. The accomplishment earned her entries into the Asia Book of Records, India Book of Records, Best of India Records, and Assam Book of Records. Since then, her journey has only surged ahead. In the 2023 national championships, Kasturi secured two gold medals in the 40th Sub-Junior & 50th Junior National Aquatic Championship, along with a silver medal in the 39th Sub-Junior & 49th Junior Nationals. Her state-level dominance is equally impressive—five golds and the Best Swimmer Award in the 31st Assam State Aquatic Championship 2024, continuing a golden streak from 2022 and 2023. From national sea swims in Gujarat to district championships back home, Kasturi continues to dazzle in every arena she dives into.
