Blackie may officially be Sumita Mukherjee’s pet, but the street dog owes her life to many in the block, who chipped in to bring her back from the jaws of death. “It all began last winter, when Blackie was born on the street outside. She was a happy-go-lucky pup but got run over by an SUV,” says Sumita. Her wounds were so severe that even the dog-lovers of the lane gave up hope and walked away.  The garbage collector dumped Blackie in the vat but a doctor in the next lane
