Parekh takes up reins of Infosys
Mumbai: Salil Parekh on Tuesday took charge as the managing director and CEO of Infosys and said he was excited to lead the company at a time technology was changing at a fast and disruptive pace.
On his first day, Parekh interacted with some employees and toured the sprawling Infosys campus. The Twitter handle of Infosys showed Parekh posing for a selfie with a few of the employees.
He was also photographed against a backdrop of the blue Infosys logo and a message that read "Welcome to Infosys, Salil".
In a video address to employees, Parekh said each worker had a role to play in this "world of continuous technology disruption" and they would have to be ready for the future, geared with the necessary skills. He added that he had met a few Infoscions and hoped they can work together to accelerate the company's transformation.
Infosys had announced the appointment of Parekh in December. Salil joins the country's second largest IT services firm from Capgemini where he was a member of the group executive board.
Observers point out to the challenges that include bringing back growth at a time the industry is facing headwinds in sectors such as banking and financial services.
He will also have to focus on bringing down attrition and chart the digital journey of Infosys.
The markets will also be looking forward to his business strategy apart from the relationship with the founders. Infosys has been in the news for an almost year-long public standoff between its promoters and the past leadership.
Parekh is expected to throw some light on his strategy at the third-quarter results, which will be announced on January 12.
Former chief financial officer of Infosys T.V. Mohandas Pai said Parekh was a team builder who understands the business and the changing market environment.
