New Swift unveiled

Greater Noida: The third-generation Swift was launched at Auto Expo 2018 on Thursday with a base price tag of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi, for the petrol version). The second generation Swift had a retail price of Rs 4.7 lakh for its base model.

The price range for the new Swift (petrol) is Rs 4.99-6.96 lakh and for the diesel is Rs 5.99-7.96 lakh.

"The Swift brand defined the Indian auto industry. We have sold 1.8 million Swifts in India," Maruti Suzuki India CEO Kenichi Ayukawa said at the launch.

The Swift was first launched in India in 2005. The second generation Swift was launched in 2011. It has been on the top-five best-selling car list for a decade. Globally, the Swift has sold 5.8 million units. In India, the Swift has a market share of 35 per cent in its category.

Maruti will close 2017-18 with a double-digit growth, said R. Kalsi, executive director (sales and marketing).

In the third quarter of 2017-18, the company has posted a 14 per cent growth. In February and March, units sold will be more, said the sales head, taking the overall 2017-18 sales to an excess of 1.75 million units. The company might overshoot its 2020 target of 2 million units a year in advance.
