Manipur leader remembered

Imphal, Sept. 30: The 121st birth anniversary of freedom fighter and Jana Neta Hijam Irawat was celebrated today across the state.

Irawat, who was born in 1896 and died on September 26, 1951, fought against the British. He was a patron of unity and stood against discrimination on the basis of community and religion.

The Irawat Celebration Committee organised the main event at Iboyaima Shuman Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, here. The celebrations marked the conclusion of the monthlong events of recalling the social, political and revolutionary leader.

People from various sections of society paid tribute to leader.
