Arrest

Police arrested two men in New Town on Thursday on the charge of impersonating cops and trying to extort Rs 20,000 from a man.

Shankar Saha, 32, and Gautam Dey, 29, brandished a toy pistol and threatened to shoot Bipul Sikdar, who runs a tea stall near Axis mall in New Town, when he refused to pay up, the police said.

Fake police identity cards and the toy gun were seized from them. The two have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Dawoodi Bohra establishments [followers of His Holiness Syedna Muffadal Saifuddin Saheb (TUS)] will remain closed from October 3 to 11 because of Muharram, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.).
