Mumbai cops probe AIB video after comedian mocks Lata, Sachin

Mumbai, May 30 (PTI): Mumbai police has begun an inquiry into complaint against comedian Tanmay Bhat's video of a mock conversation with Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar that prompted the Shiv Sena, Bhratiya Janata Party and MNS to call for action against Bhat and AIB.

The inquiry is based on the complaint by Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

Bollywood has also reacted sharply to the comedian's portrayal of the music and cricket icons, saying it is in poor taste.

Tanmay, in a video titled “Sachin v/s Lata Civil War” and posted on Facebook on May 26, took jibes at the 86-year-old melody queen and the 43-year-old cricketing legend.

The Shiv Sena asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take stringent action against AIB, a comedy channel and Bhat for allegedly seeking to vitiate social harmony by mocking the national legends.

Sena leader Neelam Gorhe wrote to Fadnavis seeking action against those behind the video.

”Such people try to misuse the popularity of icons like Sachin and Lata tai for their own publicity,” said Gorhe.

Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar said he has spoken to the Police Commissioner and sought action against Bhat and AIB.

Bhat said he saw nothing wrong with the comedy video, and asked viewers who liked it to email their views to him at a particular ID, stating what they liked.

In a couple of tweets, which he deleted later, the comedian also sought out to reach his detractors.
