Ghulam to sing at Park Circus

Ghulam Ali

Calcutta, Jan. 5: Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali and his son Aamir Ghulam Ali will perform at a government programme at Park Circus Maidan on January 12.

A Nabanna official said the confirmation from the singer came in the afternoon. Trinamul national spokesperson Derek O'Brien tweeted: "#Kolkata #Breaking Ghulam Ali and his son to perform in the city on Jan 12 at Park Circus Maidan...."

The father and son are expected to land in Calcutta on January 11. They will inaugurate a five-day exhibition-cum-fair hosted by the West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation the next day.

"The event, called Milan Utsav, will be inaugurated with a performance by Ghulam Ali and his son on January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. It is a matter of great pride for Bengal and Mamata Banerjee," said Lok Sabha MP Sultan Ahmed, the chairman of the corporation.

Mamata was among the first to invite Ghulam Ali to perform in Calcutta after the Shiv Sena forced organisers to cancel his concert in Mumbai in October last year.

On January 13, Ghulam Ali and his son are expected to leave for Thiruvananthapuram for a government programme.
