Ferry services

Jorhat, June 11: Ferry services to and from Majuli resumed today after waters of the Brahmaputra receded. However, because of the swift current the 3pm ferry was preponed to 2pm.

Man drowns

Jorhat: Ghana Limbu, 38, a resident of Kosumari under Charaideo subdivision in Sivasagar district, drowned in the Diroi on Thursday while taking a dip in the river.

Murder

Jorhat: Biju Gogoi, 38, a businessman of Bhojo near Sonari in Sivasagar district, was found murdered on Thursday morning.

Hunger strike

Jorhat: Members of the Asom Mojuri Sramik Union, affiliated to the New Trade Union, began a 50-hour hunger strike here on Thursday. They are demanding Rs 300 minimum wage for tea garden labourers. The KPLT cadre has been identified as Ramson Ronghang and linkmen have been identified as Winerson Langne and Borsing Terang.

Truck seized

Dhubri: The Dhubri district administration, in a drive against carbide-laced banana, seized a truck carrying the fruit from New Market in Dhubri town on Thursday and picked up trader Joyson Ali.

Body spotted

Dhubri: A body wrapped in plastic was spotted floating in the Brahmaputra near Kokradanga village in Dhubri.
