TMC grabs civic body

Calcutta, Sept. 2: The Trinamul Congress grabbed power at Dalkhola municipality with the chairman and nine councillors — all elected on Congress tickets — joining the ruling party in Calcutta today.

The Dalkhola municipality chairman, Subhas Goswami, and nine other councillors were inducted into Trinamul at the Trinamul Bhawan by the party’s all-India general secretary Mukul Roy.

“The councillors joined Trinamul to carry forward the development works being done by the government. Our party will also benefit with their induction in North Dinajpur,” said Roy.

In polls to the 16-member Dalkhola civic board last year, Congress won 10 wards, while Left and Trinamul got four and two seats, respectively. With today’s defection, Trinamul will have absolute control over the municipal board.
