Calcutta: Deep Sengupta is hoping to cash in on the Commonwealth Chess success at international events. The Grandmaster has just finished a training stint under GM Elizbar Ubilava in Spain.
“The sessions were very useful psychologically and technically... I’m grateful for his help. I’m hoping for some more sessions with himů I’m planning to go again in January,” Deep, a product of The Telegraph Schools’ Chess Championship, said.
The 26-year-old won the Commonwealth Chess in Scotland in July. He also finished second, via the tie-breaker, in the Dutch Open which followed the Commonwealth meet.
“This was my best achievement in an international individual event,” said Deep, who was felicitated by Alekhine Chess Club at Gorky Sadan on Thursday. He had finished with 7.5 points out of nine.
Aronyak Ghosh was also felicitated for winning silver in the National Under-11 meet. GM Neelotpal Das, along with Gurbux Singh and Laxmi Ratan Shukla, were present at the function.
