Jusco gifts green lung to senior citizens

- Rejoice, New Baradwari

Residents of New Baradwari in Jamshedpur now have more room to relax.

Jusco gifted the upscale locality with Senior Citizen’s Park, a green lung that includes a 100-metre walking track, on Sunday.

Dhalbhum DFO Karma Zimpa Bhutia and local resident advocate Lakshmi Nidhi did the inauguration honours. Both planted saplings as part of the ceremony in the presence of Ashish Mathur, Jusco managing director, and others.

The place was an encroached half-an-acre plot that served as a parking area for trucks and trailers, Jusco spent Rs 3 lakh to turn it into a much-needed green lung and named it Senior Citizen’s Park, the sixth one in five years. As the name suggests, the park will be maintained by the senior citizens of the area.

“It is a great effort on the part of Jusco. Increased green cover and an open space for denizens always add to the beauty of a city. We in Jamshedpur are lucky and we can only feel how suffocating the concrete jungle could be it when we move out of the town,” said Dhalbhum DFO Bhutia.

“The idea to gift about two parks in a year was to increase the green cover in the city and to gift people with open space. Also the idea of beneficiaries maintaining the park is a good one because it invokes a sense of responsibility among the people. We will welcome if people want their areas to be developed. They will just have to approach us,” said Rajesh Rajan, head of corporate communications, Jusco.

Senior citizen Lakshmi Nidhi welcomed the idea.

“We are thankful to Jusco. Since we have taken charge of the park, we want youngsters to do the needful while the senior citizens share their valuable experience,” she added.

With the green campaign in mind, Jusco’s next project will be the Aambagan grounds in Sakchi that has turned to be a barren land with encroachment as the main problem. The drive to make it green has begun.
