Criminal held with pistol in Kadma

East Singhbhum district police arrested a dreaded criminal wanted for his involvement in a number of robberies and extortion rackets, from Ramnagar under Kadma police station area late on Monday late night.

Identified as Vikas Das (27), the police recovered a double-barrel loaded pistol from him and arrested him under the Arms Act.

He is a resident of Kandra in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district where a number of criminal cases are pending against him.

The police said Vikas had given them the slip during an encounter at Palastand under Chowka police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan district in the wee hours of August 3. His associate, Dubraj Mahto, was injured in the shootout and arrested.

SP (city) Karthik S said a police party, led by sub-inspector Ramadhar Singh of Kadma police station, spotted him during a patrol near Sonari aerodrum around 10 pm on Monday, moving about in a suspicious way.

“On seeing the police vehicle, the youth started walking fast, alerting the policemen. Soon the sub-inspector and his men chased him and eventually nabbed him a little distance away. They found the loaded pistol in his possession,” said the city SP.

Vikas revealed his identity during interrogation. Later, the police realised he was the same person who had fled during the August 3 encounter at Chowka.

Karthik said Vikas was involved in several instances of looting, extortion and robbery, adding he had come to Kadma to pull off another crime.
