Valley dim Sunrise

- SAI men beat Rising Eleven 2-1 in A-Division league

Guwahati, Aug. 13: Green Valley Sports Club completely outplayed Sunrise Athletic Club to register a thrashing 5-0 victory in their match of the R.G. Baruah Guwahati Sports Association Super Division Football League on ground one of Nehru Stadium here today.

In a completely one-sided affair, Sunrise players never looked to be in rhythm while they failed to capitalise on their few chances. Nigerian recruit George Prince made his way past opposition defenders, took a powerful strike from the left flank of the box but his attempt missed the target by a whisker in the fourth minute. Apurba Phukan’s fine cross to fleet-footed Nigerian recruit Michael Lucky Kelechukwu was well utilised by the latter with a fine volley to find the back of the net in the 11the minute.

To make things worse for Sunrise, George Prince took full advantage of a defence lapse and a misplaced custodian Santi Ranjan Das to give his side a two-goal lead in the 17th minute. Green Valley kept the pressure mounting on the Sunrise defenders, which paved the way for the third goal in the 24th minute.

Sunrise glovesman Santi Ranjan Das made a complete mockery of a goal-kick, as his shot found George Prince in a favourable position. He decided to pass the ball to Kelechukwu who made no mistake in dribbling past the lone defender inside the box before guiding the ball into the net.

Sunrise came close to finding a goal in the 48th minute. However, Tapan Kalita’s header missed the crossbar by inches off a Prosenjit Saha’s well-elevated corner. A free kick from a few steps outside the box by Apollo Rongmei was fisted by Santi Ranjan Das only to find substitute Thomson Langthasa who absolutely did justice to the situation by finding the back of the net in the 83rd minute with ease.

Langthasa ensured his brace with a fine strike from outside the box in the additional minutes of the match.

In the Jibeswar Goswami GSA A Division Football League at ground two, Sports Authority of India Sports Club registered a 2-1 victory over Rising Eleven Club. Dwijo Raj Boro struck twice for SAI in the 22nd and 80th minute respectively while Ajoy Sonar scored for Rising Eleven in the sixth minute.
