Lip-smacking fish preparations and sandwiches would make for an interesting travel now on the Rajdhani or Shatabdi.
What’s more — welcome drinks would be served as soon as you’re on board.
“Passengers travelling on the Patna-Rajdhani Express would now get fish moilee, doi maanch and fish curry apart from chicken butter masala,” said a senior official of the Railway Board.
There’s good news for the vegetarians too. “Passengers would be treated to paneer kadhai, paneer do piyaza and shahi paneer. Paneer ala kiev with finger chips and boiled vegetables would be there for breakfast. Dum aaloo has also been introduced,” said the official.
The Indian Railways has tweaked the menu based on the recommendation of a committee set up by the Railway Board. The new menu would be implemented from August 13. The tariff would remain the same.
The zonal railways and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) jointly made observations and suggestions on the instruction of the committee, after which the menu was revised.
The senior official said: “Four region-wise menus — northern, eastern, western and southern — would be introduced.”
On the revised menu, the official said: “A welcome drink has been introduced for all passengers of AC classes on commencement of the journey in the form of lemon juice, cold drinks, fruit juice, coconut water, lassi, chhach in tetrapack. Sandwiches, too, have been introduced for the first time as snacks.”
Whenever the breakfast immediately follows the welcome drink, Frooti and tetrapack drink would not be served.
The board has asked the zonal railways ensure that adequate employees are deputed on the trains to ensure complaint-free service.
The menu of Duronto, too, has been revised but there is no facility of dinner on the Patna-Shalimar Duronto Express.
