Ammo haul foils attack on police

Patna, Aug. 7: Rohtas police claimed to have foiled an attack on security personnel after seizure of a big haul of explosives from Karvandhiya near Sasaram, around 165km west of Patna, on Thursday. One person was arrested in the connection.

Acting on a tip-off, a team, headed by Rohtas superintendent of police Chandan Kumar Kushwaha, conducted raids in Sahpur and Chandani Chowk villages under the jurisdiction of Sasaram Mufassil police station and seized 1,200 gelatine sticks, 4,225 detonators and 15kg ammonium nitrate. The police nabbed one Dhanji Paswan of Shahpur in the district. During interrogation, Paswan confessed to his involvement in the illegal supply of explosives to Maoists and criminal gangs involved in stone quarrying in the Rohtas-Kaimur region.

SP Kushwaha later said the explosives were stored to carry out an attack on the security forces during anti-Naxalite operations.
