The Natural Way

Suparna Trikha Dewan has natural solutions to all your beauty problems

I am a 22-year-old woman. My hair is very oily and I wash it every alternate day. However, I am facing hair loss at an alarming rate for the last one month. Please suggest a remedy.

There can be various reasons for hair loss. You will have to find out what is applicable in your case and treat yourself accordingly. Stress, internal weakness, dandruff, sedentary lifestyle, lack of proper diet and sleep, an insufficient hair care programme and the fact that you may have inherited alopecia in your genes. To begin with, change your shampoo to one that is gentle on the scalp and made from herbal ingredients. Use the following leave-in conditioner to help reduce oiliness: 200ml strained tea water to which you have added the juice of half a lemon. After shampooing your hair pour this into wet hair and leave in and let dry naturally. You can also use the following hair food mask that helps reduce hair fall: 20 fresh hibiscus leaves (ground), 10 peppercorns (ground), 10g each of amla, reetha, shikakai and triphala. Mix these ingredients with two eggs and apply from scalp to ends and leave in for 45 minutes and shampoo off.

I follow a normal regime and regularly cleanse, tone and moisturise my skin. As I have oily skin that is very pimple-prone, I try and use a gel-based moisturiser in the summer. My hair is very dry and frizzy and I make it a point to do a hair spa once a month. Since we shoot outdoors and under harsh lights, I always hydrate myself. I drink a lot of water and have started drinking green tea. I recently went to Santiniketan for a shoot and came back with a tan, rubbing a tomato helped me get rid of the tan.
