Maiden win for Warriors

Calcutta: Bengal Warriors registered their maiden victory of the ongoing Star Sports Pro-Kabaddi League, piping Dabang Delhi 42-40 at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, here, on Thursday.

Bengal Warriors had the upper hand leading 28-14 at the half-time but Dabang Delhi made a spectacular comeback through Kashiling Adake (10 raid points) and Surjeet Narwal (8) as they made it 38-38.

Cheered by a boisterous crowd, Bengal Warriors held Adake in the dying minutes to tilt the match in Bengal’s favour.

Korean recruit Jang Kun Lee was once again the star performer for the local favourites with seven raid points and rightly the Best Raider.

The Warriors now have five points with one win from three matches, while Dabang Delhi too logged one point as the margin of loss was less than seven points. They have one win and two losses.

In the first half, Lee helped Bengal Warriors surge past Dabang Delhi. He had a successful raid of three points in the ninth minute and that turned it around for the city side.

Earlier, buoyed by the presence of Abhishek Bachchan, Jaipur Pink Panthers routed Telugu Titans 46-32.

Maninder Singh and Jasvir Singh of the winners created havoc in their raids into the Telugu Titans half, giving Abhishek a chance to try out his thigh 5.

The match also saw the ‘debut’ of Pakistani player Wajid Ali for the Telugu Titans.
