Silchar men claim title


Hailakandi, July 31: Striker Sunday Wager Aiyuk helped Silchar Sporting get the better of Tarapur Athletic Club 5-3 and emerge champions of the Ramanuj Gupta Memorial Football Super League organised by the Silchar District Sports Association.

In what was virtually the final match of the league at the flood-lit Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar on Wednesday, the in-form Nigerian recruit once again proved to be his teamís talisman, scoring as many as five goals.

He scored in the 17th, 46th, 74th, 83rd and 90th minutes respectively.

The match, however, was evenly fought, with Tarapurís Joldiana drawing parity in the 20th minute.

Vanlalghata again made it 2-2 in the 60th minute.

Tarapur were leading 3-2 with Lalremliana netting one in the 62nd minute but for the stout Nigerian who countered with three more goals to seal the match for his team.

Tarapur AC and Arunachal Sanskritik Sanstha were placed second and third in the league respectively.
