Assault FIR against Dal MLA

July 31: An FIR has been lodged against JDU MLA Krishna Kumar Singh and his two bodyguards in Saran for allegedly beating up six engineers of the water resources department yesterday at Lal Tola in Sitab Diara, around 100km northwest from Patna.

“The district administration has lodged an FIR against Singh and his bodyguards — havaldar Om Prakash and constable Ashok Paswan — with Rivilganj police station. The bodyguards have been ordered to report to the police lines,” said Saran district magistrate Kundan Kumar.

The six engineers allegedly beaten up are Rajeshwar Dayal (engineer-in-chief, north) Jawahar Lal (superintending engineer, flood control planning and monitoring, Patna circle), Ravindra Shakar (executive engineer, flood control planning and monitoring, Patna division 2), Dinesh Kumar Choudhary (chief engineer, Siwan), Vasuki Nath (superintending engineer, Gopalganj) and Ashok Kumar Keshri (executive engineer, flood, Chhapra).

Dinesh told The Telegraph: “We went to take stock of the anti-erosion work. Suddenly, MLA Singh came with his two bodyguards and started abusing us. When we requested him not to interfere in the department work, he ordered his bodyguards to beat us up. He also joined in assaulting us between 3pm and 4pm. Somehow, we managed to flee. The government should take strict action against the MLA and his bodyguards.”

Water resources department minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary termed the incident “unfortunate”. “I have asked my officials to submit a report. The MLA should not have interfered in the work of the department.”

Condemning the incident, the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, said: “As the JDU has made an alliance with the RJD, such incidents should not amaze people. The JDU leaders have started adopting the RJD culture.”

The Bihar Engineering Services Association (Besa) has demanded the MLA’s arrest and subsequent expulsion from the House. “If no action is taken within 72 hours, the anti-erosion work in the entire state would be stopped,” said Chanakya Kumar Singh, Besa general secretary.

MLA Singh denied the allegation and termed it a “conspiracy”. “The engineers have tried to malign my name as I saw them having fun in duty hours. It is a conspiracy against me,” he said.
