4 in net for teen guard’s murder

Four persons were arrested and seven others picked up for interrogation on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old security guard whose body was found lying near a construction site at Devnagar in Sitaramdera police station area in the small hours of Tuesday.

Those arrested for Sunny Karmakar’s murder have been identified as Bharat Pradhan alias Vicky (18), Sambhu Patro (18), Mahabir Sona (19) and Shekhar Sandil (28) — all residents of Devnagar. The arrested quartet will be forwarded to judicial custody on Thursday.

Police, however, are yet to recover material evidence like the weapon that was used to kill Sunny.

According to police, Vicky plotted the murder while the other three executed it. Sunny was allegedly killed for teasing local girls. “Sunny was a resident of New Devnagar, about 200 metres from where he worked as a guard. He would often tease girls and this irked a group of youths,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.

He added that this time the girl in question was Vicky’s girlfriend. However, the officer, added that unemployment too could be a reason behind the murder.

SP (city) Karthik S. added that there was a minor scuffle in the area on Wednesday morning.

“The agitated residents of Devnagar thrashed Shekhar Sandil He was grievously injured. Later, a police team rushed to the spot and took him to MGM Medical College and Hospital,” he added.
