Southampton: India’s bowling coach Joe Dawes has said that the Indian camp is hopeful that Ishant Sharma, who was ruled out of the third Test with an ankle injury, will be fit before the next Test.
Speaking at a media conference after the day’s play, Dawes said: “Ishant got a bit of sore leg and we need to do some more tests on him… There are 11 days or so before the next Test and I am confident that he can pull through.”
The Indian bowlers didn’t have much success on the opening day of the Test and Dawes admitted that they need to improve. “The scoreboard says today is not our day… But there are pleasing signs, Pankaj (Singh) bowled really well, but things didn’t go his way. Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) probably had an off day and (Mohammed) Shami was there and thereabouts. Improvements need to be made.”
Dawes also revealed that the Indian bowlers had dinner with Michael Holding and got a few tips from the West Indian pace legend.
“The Royalty of fast bowling is Michael Holding, isn’t he? We have a young group of bowlers. It was nice for us to have dinner with Holding… The boys asked him a lot of questions and learned a lot of things.”
