Subhendu aide axed

Tamluk, July 22: The Trinamul leadership today appointed Anisur Rahman, a close aide to Mukul Roy, as the president of the party’s youth wing in East Midnapore, replacing Sukumar Dey, an MLA and Subhendu Adhikari loyalist.

In some circles of Trinamul, the change is being seen as another attempt to marginalise the Adhikari family in its fief.

“Dey was not active as the party’s youth wing president. The organisation did not grow under him. We are hopeful that the new president will build the organisation into a strong one,” said Akhil Giri, working president of Trinamul in the district.

“There is a systematic attempt to neutralise Subhendu in the party,” said a Trinamul leader today.

On May 30, Subhendu was removed as the state head of the Trinamul Youth Congress and replaced by Saumitra Khan, the Bishnupur MP considered a Roy loyalist.
