Trinamul scapegoat finger in Sagar case

Suri, July 17: Some of the accused Trinamul members named in the chargesheet related to the Sagar Ghosh murder case, in which Birbhum party president Anubrata Mondal was named in the FIR, today said they had been made “scapegoats” while “big leaders” had been spared.

The chargesheet, submitted to the Suri chief judicial magistrate’s court today, does not name Mondal and Birbhum zilla parishad sabhapati Bikash Roy Chowdhury, who too had figured on the FIR against 41 people.

Trinamul leader Sheikh Mustafa, one of those named in the chargesheet, said he and the other seven chargesheeted persons were “innocent”.

“We were made scapegoats while the big leaders went scot free,” he said over phone.

Asked whether he meant Mondal and Roy Chowdhury, Mustafa parried the question. “I am speaking of all the big and middle-wrung leaders (whose names cropped up in the case). The (Calcutta High Court-appointed) special investigation team nailed innocent people like me.”

Kuntal Chatterjee, the assistant public prosecutor of Suri court, said: “Eight of the 41 accused have been named in the chargesheet, which was submitted today to CJM Indranil Chatterjee by the SIT.”

Repeated calls to Mondal’s phone went unanswered. Roy Chowdhury said: “I have not got the details of what happened in court today. So I will not make any comments.”
