London: Gary Ballance will keep his place in the England team for the second Test against India despite being pictured during a boozy visit to a Nottingham nightclub on Sunday night.
Photographs apparently taken by another drinker in the Pandoras Box nightclub show Ballance topless and clutching a beer. The ECB have confirmed that the pictures are of the batsman and were taken on Sunday night.
The England players were given a night to themselves on Sunday, and a day off on Monday, so Ballance was not breaking any curfew, or any team rules about alcohol.
The ECB issued a statement, saying Ballance had been out with England teammates and would not face any disciplinary action, but that coach Peter Moores had spoken to him about maintaining England’s “image.”
Moores said: “I am aware that some of the England players were caught on camera relaxing after the conclusion of the recent Trent Bridge Test match. As the players had been released at the end of the first Test and were not due to meet up for the second until Monday evening, and there were no suggestions of impropriety, there is no need for any disciplinary action.
“I will, however, be reminding all players of their responsibilities to uphold the best possible image for England cricket.”
