Brasilia: The Netherlands led 2-0 at half-time in their World Cup third-place playoff against hosts Brazil, on Saturday. Robin van Persie and Daley Blind were the scorers.

Brazil’s defensive woes were again evident just 90 seconds into the match when skipper Thiago Silva gave away a penalty.

Van Persie smashed home the spot-kick.

Netherlands added the second in the 17th minute. Robben played a short, sharp pass to Jonathan de Guzman on the right. He lobbed the ball in the box. David Luiz, in an attempt to clear the ball, back-headed it into play, straight into the path of Blind, who controlled the ball and hit the same spot as Van Persie did with his penalty. (Agencies)
