Calcutta port board shake-up

Calcutta, July 9: At least six Calcutta Port Trust trustees perceived to be close to a Trinamul Rajya Sabha MP have been removed from the governing body on the advice of the Union shipping ministry.

R.P.S. Kahlon, the CPT chairman, said the shipping ministry had advised the replacement of the trustees who represented “other interests”.

Sources said that altogether eight trustees have been removed, of whom six are said to be close to the MP.

“It (the ministry) has sought our suggestion on new names. We will send a panel of names. But it is the prerogative of the ministry to choose from the panel or decide on their own,” Kahlon told The Telegraph.
