Purnima Devi claims title

Imphal, July 7: N. Purnima Devi clinched the womenís singles title of the first M. Manindra State-Level Cash Prize Badminton Tournament at MM Indoor Hall, Moirang, in Bishnupur District today.

Purnima, pitted against M. Somibala Devi, had to toil hard in the first set to end it with a 23-21 points win and later wrapped up the second set 21-16 for the championís title.

In the menís singles event, W. James Singh had an easy outing, beating I. Yaitomba Singh 21-15, 21-13 to claim the title.

The boysí doubles under-19 saw the pair of I. Yaitomba Singh and his partner Rk. Devjit getting the better of L. Dickson and Y. Malemnganba 21-14, 21-19 to become champions. In the under-15 category, O. Aimson with O. Chandrajit smashed out N. Sidhu and O. Nirjit by 21-16 and 21-9 points.

H. Jugin and his partner Rk. Robinsana prevailed over K. Jadu and P. Bilash 22-20, 21-17 to claim the menís doubles under- 40 category.

In the under-50 category, Shantikumar Singh and W. Amusana Meitei overcame M. Mubi Singh and Th. Rajen Singh 21-9, 7-21, 21-16 to claim the championís title.

In the menís doubles, W. Amusana Meitei and W. James defeated L. Unikumar and Rk. Devjit to win the title while the boysí singles title was claimed by O. Aimson Singh beating O. Chandrajit.
