Upset Pak minister disappears

Islamabad, July 4: Pakistani interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has disappeared from the political scene as reports spread of a split between him and his party.

It comes after a series of meetings between Khan and Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Nisar met Sharif for the second time in three days last night. The Punjab chief minister travelled all the way from Lahore to Islamabad for the meeting, strengthening speculation that it was a mission to pacify the interior minister.

Khan is upset with the ruling party’s handling of former President Pervez Musharraf’s treason case, non-allocation of funds for internal security in the budget and the military operation in North Waziristan . Khan favours letting Musharraf go abroad which, he believes, will enable the government focus on more pressing issues.
