CPM prod to Nadia SP on Tapas

Krishnagar, July 4: The Nadia CPM today appealed to the district police chief to initiate action against Trinamul MP Tapas Paul, alleging that his inflammatory comments had incited the murder of a panchayat member and attacks on Left supporters.

The secretary of the CPM’s Nadia unit, Sumit Dey, said in a letter to SP Arnab Ghosh that the district party leadership feared more such attacks.

Calls to Ghosh’s phone went unanswered.

Dey alleged that on June 27, a party member of the Narayanpur gram panchayat, Abdul Haque Siddique Sheikh, was “killed by a group of Trinamul supporters inside the panchayat office”.

Dey alleged that on June 18, Trinamul supporters had ransacked six houses of CPM supporters at Teghari village. “All these incidents are the immediate reactions to Paul’s speech,” he added in the letter.

ABP Ananda today aired portions of a speech Paul gave on June 14 in Nadia’s Haranagar. “The one who toiled for the Trinamul Congress like a mad man, I have come for Asraf. From this month, I will sit in the Krishnagar constituency. Those who have killed (him), I will not spare them. Those who killed Asraf, I will not spare them.”

Asraful Mondal, a local Trinamul leader, was murdered by suspected CPM activists in Haranagar on the night of May 31.
