Bihar governor in charge

D.Y. Patil

Calcutta, July 3: Bihar governor D.Y. Patil will take additional charge of Bengal tomorrow.

M.K. Narayanan, who has resigned as Bengal governor around seven months before the expiry of his term, will leave Raj Bhavan tomorrow with wife Padmini.

Raj Bhavan officials said tonight that they had been informed about Patil taking additional charge as Bengal governor.

Raj Bhavan sources said tonight that Narayanan had exchanged pleasantries with almost all of the 300-odd staff members of his secretariat. The employees gave him a farewell over tea and snacks today in the Marble Hall.

“Governor saheb said hello to most of us. He shared with us anecdotes related to his four-year stay at Raj Bhavan,” an employee said.

Yesterday, a smiling Narayanan had summed up his stint in Bengal as “wonderful”. “What can I say beyond ‘wonderful’? That, frankly, sums it up,” he had said.
