Teacher found murdered

Malda, June 29: A computer teacher was found murdered in a deserted area near Gajole this morning with his throat slit and private parts chopped off.

Asif Iqbal Chowdhury, 24, from Binoy Sarkar Road in Malda was a computer teacher at a private school.

“A youth’s body was found in a deserted place in the Thana Colony area of Majhra village in Gajole block this morning. The body was lying upside down with cut marks on the throat. His private parts were also removed. We could find a few empty liquor and water bottles, a lady’s handkerchief and some fast food packets on the spot,” said a source at the Gajole police station.

Saiful Rehman, a cousin of Asif, who resides in Majhra, went to the spot with others and recognised the body. Majhra is 40km from Malda.

Asif’s father, Md Matiur Rehman, said his son had left home last night with money and couldn’t be contacted on the phone since then. “As he didn’t return even after 11pm, I called him up. His cellphone rang once but it was switched off later,” said Rehman, a retired railway employee.

Prasun Banerjee, the Malda police chief, said Saiful had been arrested earlier on the charges of theft. “The youth has been brutally killed with sharp weapons. He had been arrested in connection with a theft. He was out on bail.”
