Ravikant causes twin upsets

Guwahati, June 26: Sixth seed Ravikant Tiwari caused two major upsets on the second day of the Late Rajat Chandra Sarma Smritishastri and Kamini Priya Devi Guwahati Chess Championship to share the lead with Chiraranjan Bhuyun and Sahajahan Ali with four points apiece after four rounds today.

In the third round played in the morning, Ravikant shocked top seed Bipin Singh in an attacking game.

On the second board, second seed Prodip Bhuyun went down to seventh seed Sahajahan Ali in another upset of the third round. Ravikant caused another upset in the fourth round played in the afternoon. He outwitted third seed Pranab Kumar Nath. Fourth seed Chiraranjan Bhuyan got the better of fifth seed Biswajit Bharadwaj in a lacklustre queen endgame. The top three were followed by a group of 10 players on three points per head in the second slot. Chiraranjan will face Sahajahan Ali on the top board tomorrow while Ravikant will face Biswajit Bharadwaj on the second board.
