Arrest foils trader robbery

The arrest of a criminal foiled a robbery of Rs 10 lakh from a city businessman.

Bijay Sabaiya was nabbed from Tata-Hata state highway in the Potka police station area in the small hours of Thursday when he, along with two aides, were waiting for the businessman’s car to pass.

The other two, Jitu Gope and Bhatta Lohar, however, managed to escape.

Police refused to disclose the victim’s identity.

According to them, the trio knew that the businessman, who was returning from Haldipokhar to Parsudih, was carrying Rs 10 lakh and had planned to rob him. Acting on a tip-off, SSP Amol V. Homkar formed a special team led by Sonari and Parsudih OCs Animesh Gupta and Dayanand Kumar, respectively, and sent it to Gitilata on the highway to nab the robbers.

“Sabaiya confessed to have planned to rob the businessman of Rs 10 lakh,” Homkar added.

Police also recovered a loaded countrymade pistol and a bike from Sabaiya.
