Ranchi, June 21: The regional passport office in Ranchi was adjudged the best centre in C category on Saturday for delivering seamless service.

Regional passport officer Sanatan, who will receive the award for the achievement from Union minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj on June 24, told The Telegraph that his seniors in New Delhi broke the good news to him.

He added that it was for the second consecutive time that the passport office in Ranchi had been adjudged the best in this category.

“In 2013, the Ranchi-based regional office issued as many as 90,000 passports. We have already issued 40,000 passports so far in 2014,” he said.

Sanatan gave a share of the credit to Jharkhand police, saying the men in uniform had played a major role in helping the Ranchi office clinch the award.

“The credit also goes to state police, who conduct the verification of the application forms based on which we issue the passports,” he said.

Explaining about the different categories the regional passport offices are grouped under, Sanatan said that the passports offices that receive less than 2 lakh applications annually are placed in C category.

“Passport offices that receive 5 lakh or more applications are slotted under A category. Offices that get applications between 2 lakh and 5 lakh are grouped under B category,” said the regional passport officer.
