Hello Brabourne. Hello Chepauk. Our very own Dhurwa has joined your elite league.
After scoring a world-class hit with its stadium last year, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has padded up for a super Saturday when it will throw open its Country Cricket Club, a recreation hub for the privileged in Ranchi.
Team India skipper and local lad M.S. Dhoni will do the splendid honours while DGP Rajeev Kumar will be the guest of honour. “We couldn’t think of anyone else other than Mahi to launch our CCC. He will fly in from Delhi for the function and then leave for Mumbai to join the team, which leaves for India’s England tour tomorrow (Saturday) night,” said JSCA chief Amitabh Choudhary.
Choudhary said the club was modelled on those at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and MA Chidambaram Stadium (commonly known as Chepauk) in Chennai. CCC, he stressed, would stand for comfort, convenience and class.
“There will be three types of membership. Life membership will be for dedicated JSCA functionaries while services membership will be offered to civil servants at a one-time payment of Rs 10,000. Permanent membership will come for Rs 5 lakh in three instalments,” he added.
The plush restaurant on the ground floor flaunts a live kitchen, which will serve up exotic dishes that are likely to be named after cricketers, besides twin seating options. “Power Play can seat 100 people comfortably in the inside. We have also planned an open deck with a capacity of 35-40,” said JSCA spokesperson Manoj Kumar
To the right of the club’s entrance is a 4,000sqft family lounge with a dedicated and heavily embellished pavilion for children. “The floor in the Openers area will be carpeted to prevent injuries when kids play,” Kumar said, adding that a 24x7 coffee shop for adults was also on the cards
The name says it all. Not Out is the tippler’s paradise at CCC. The elegant woodwork on the walls exudes warmth while giant LCD screens, which will be installed soon, promise to make watching matches a cool thing. “We have named the bar Not Out to remind people not get clean bowled after drinking,” Kumar quipped
The third and fourth floors of CCC offer four suites and 26 deluxe rooms, besides dorms. “All rooms will be wi-fi enabled in the future. Every suite has a drawing room, a work desk, wardrobes, a double bed or twin beds and attached bathrooms. We are yet to decide on the name for this zone,” said the JSCA official.
