Maoist gunfight in Sonua

Jamshedpur, June 17: An encounter took place between Maoists and paramilitary personnel at Siumari jungle in Sonua of West Singhbhum district, about 140km from Jamshedpur, last evening.

Though the gun battle lasted for more than an hour, no casualty has been reported.

West Singhbhum superintendent of police N.K. Singh said the encounter took place when the CRPF jawans were returning from long-range patrolling in rebel-hit Sonua block. A 15-member Maoist squad opened fire at the forces. As the jawans counter-fired, leading to a gunfight for over an hour, Singh said.

Building attacked

Garhwa: Armed Maoists rebels demolished a semi-complete primary health centre building at Hesatu village in Bhandaria in the small hours of Monday. They also manhandled labourers at the construction site and left behind a note, asking contractor Om Prakash Kesri to speak to them at the earliest.
