Fraud cuffs on ex-cop

A retired assistant sub-inspector of Calcutta police has been arrested along with another man for allegedly cheating a leather trader of Rs 60,000, police said.

Radha Krishna Singh, the retired cop, was picked up on Tuesday following a complaint by leather trader Rup Narayan Das of Entally.

“Singh is part of a gang that got in touch with Das and offered him good leather at a cheap price. As part of the deal, Das paid the gang Rs 60,000 at Prinsep Ghat on May 14,” said an officer.

According to the complaint, they asked Das to accompany them to a warehouse on Strand Road. A few minutes later, the gang members allegedly kicked Das and fled in a taxi. “Singh is a resident of the New Market area. The other man arrested was Asadul Haq, of Halisahar,” the officer said.
