Arunachal Sangha prevail

Hailakandi, June 10: Arunachal Sanskritik Sangha today came back from behind to hand a 2-1 defeat to India Club in a league encounter of the District Sports Association, Silchar Super Division football league at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar.

After a barren first half which witnessed very few moves on either side, India Club gained the upper hand with a 49th-minute goal by Malingir Halam who made no mistake in his follow through to push in the ball that goalkeeper Biraj Biswas fumbled with. The match remained tilted in favour of India Club late into the second half till the Arunachal Sangha men got the first opportunity when they were awarded a penalty kick for Saibulam Hmar of India Club handling the ball in the danger zone in the 78th minute. Lalrambak made no mistake in converting the spot kick to draw parity.

Vanlalbia clinched the match in the 89th minute by beating opponent glovesman Papu Chakraborty easily with solo efforts from the midfield onwards.

Tomorrow, Tarun Sangha were scheduled to play Town Club. However, Tarun Sangha have submitted in writing that they would not be able to play the match tomorrow due to “internal constraints”. DSA football secretary Ashit Dhar said a decision on the match would be taken later.
