Assam rowers excel

Guwahati, June 6: Assam rowers continued their good run in the 17th Sub-Junior National and 18 Challenger Sprint National Rowing Championship in Calcutta, sealing four more final berths in the meet.

The duo of Akashdeep Rajkhowa and Manabjyoti Dutta powered their way into the sub-junior boys’ doubles scull final while Shankhanil Tamuli and Sudipta Chetia combined strength and skill to advance to the sub-juniors boys pair final.

Ridhwaan Azeem’s prospects of a gold medal looks bright after the young rower made it to the sub-junior boys’ single scull final.

Yesterday, Prerna Basnet had sealed a berth in the single scull sub-junior girls’ final.

In the Challenger men’s category, Haladhar Choudhury kept his form going, making it to the single scull final.

A 40-member squad from Assam is taking part in the meet hosted by the West Bengal Rowing Association on behalf of the Rowing Federation of India.

The weeklong meet concludes tomorrow.
